Lunch & Learn meeting with Redis
On November 21st, we organized another edition of Lunch & Learn in Warsaw. At their core, Lunch & Learn meetings are more than just a series of technical talks. We want them to be a platform for exchanging ideas and best practices and learning from the hands-on experience of our experts.
This time, we had the pleasure of co-hosting the event with our partner, Redis! We gathered both domain experts and tech enthusiasts eager to learn about Redis' capabilities.
Redis is the world’s fastest in-memory database that provides cloud and on-prem solutions for caching, vector search, and NoSQL databases that seamlessly fit into any tech stack—making it simple for digital customers to build, scale, and deploy the fast apps our world runs on.
The event agenda included the following highlights:
- Beyond Caching: How Redis Helps Meet a Broad Range of Real-Time Demands by Max Keller from Redis
- Early detection of service abuse with Redis by Michał Ostruszka from SoftwareMill
- Handling Large Data in Redis: Lessons from a Production-Grade Application by Piotr Kukła from VirtusLab
The event started with an engaging session with Max Keller, focusing on its versatility and speed, which make it a top choice for caching, real-time analytics, and high-performance application development. He shared practical use cases and demonstrated the platform’s extensive features, including some brand-new ones!
A deep dive into Redis
Later in the meeting, we delved even more into what the tool offers with experienced developers and Redis users. Michał Ostruszka, our Lead Software Engineer, in his technical but accessible presentation, showed how to use Redis and its versatile components to detect system abuse early and efficiently.
Detection and prevention of service abuse of various kinds is getting more and more important to any service provider. It’s best to filter out fraudulent requests early in the process so they don’t put unnecessary pressure and don’t consume resources of the system. At the same time such filtering needs to be fast and don’t consume huge amounts of resources by itself. Here is where Redis’ probabilistic data structures (like Bloom Filters and Cuckoo Filters) may be useful.

Last but not least, Piotr Kukła from VirtusLab discussed how Redis helps to handle large data sets, using the example of a project he worked on and the challenges he encountered there.
It was our great pleasure to co-host the Lunch&Learn event in Warsaw alongside Redis. We had the opportunity to hear 3 highly technical and interesting presentations. Redis kicked things off with insights into the latest Redis 8 and Redis Enterprise features. Our very own Michał Ostruszka followed with an in-depth look at Redis probabilistic data structures. Finally, Piotr Kukła from VirtusLab shared an intriguing use case from the car manufacturing industry. We hope this is just the beginning of our journey with Redis-focused events, and we look forward to many more in the future!
